Satirical magazine editor Ian Hislop and deadpan comedian Paul Merton are the regular team captains who send up politicians, celebrities, royalty and sports stars and each other with due aplomb. The panel game was hosted by Angus Deayton throughout the 1990s, until he found himself embroiled in the kind of tabloid scandal that the show was designed to highlight and lampoon. The vacant chair has since been taken by a host of VIP ringmasters, from Boris Johnson to Ruby Wax, Jeremy Clarkson to Jo Brand, leading the panelists through regular topics covering TV and newspaper stories, obscure links between famous people, and the cheeky missing words from headlines round in which the teams nudge the boundaries of taste and legality.
